Interpreter Services

Interpreter Services

Interpreter Services in the Western District of Texas are provided pursuant to the mandate of the Court Interpreters Act (Title 28, U.S.C. § 1827.). The Western District of Texas is currently staffed by 13 federally certified interpreters who are responsible for providing language support locally to each of the court’s divisions and for obtaining the services of qualified interpreters in all languages needed in our courts.

Spoken-language Interpreters are appointed in proceedings instituted by the United States. In all other proceedings, it is up to the parties to contract and compensate interpreters. However, it is the policy of the Judicial Conference that all Federal courts provide reasonable accommodations to persons with communications disabilities in all court proceedings, including sign language interpreters or other appropriate auxiliary aids and services.
